Ranch style is the most popular home style in Phoenix

by Emily Marek

The octagonal home is the most popular style in the United States — but what about in Phoenix?

Using Zillow filters, American Home Shield (AHS) looked at listings associated with certain architectural styles in each state and major city and analyzed the daily listing views for homes associated with each style.

Nationwide, octagonal homes earn a median of 56 views per day, more than any other style on the AHS list. Octagon style was followed by stick style with 51.1 views, ranch style with 49.3 views, neo-Mediterranean with 43.5 views, shingle style with 41.5 views, Dutch colonial with 31.6 views, Cape Cod with 30.7 views, prairie style with 23.2 views, townhome style with 21.3 views and mid-century modern with 20.1 views.

Conversely, certain architectural styles don’t get much love at all on Zillow. The least popular style in the U.S. is shipping container style, with listings getting a median of only 2.8 views per day. Shipping container style was followed by tidewater style with 3.1 views, tiny homes with 3.4 views, Beaux Arts style with five views, art deco with 5.1 views, new traditional with 5.2 views, federal with 5.2 views, Art Moderne with 8.4 views, A-frame with 10.1 views and log cabin with 10.9 views.

But how do nationwide trends compare to preferences in Phoenix? In the Valley of the Sun, ranch style homes — characterized by their single-story — are the most popular, garnering a median of 55.5 views per day.

On the flip side, the least-popular home style in Phoenix is the once-ubiquitous farmhouse, with listings earning only 17.3 views per day.

Statewide, the ranch style is the most popular in Arizona, with a median of 67.3 views per day, while the least popular style is federal style, earning less than one view per day.
