Scottsdale is one of the top cities for renter families

by Emily Marek

According to RentCafe, over 68 million renters in the United States live with family. But what factors make a place best suited to the needs of renter families?

The rental analysis company looked at metrics such as cost of living, apartment availability and size, local school quality and family-friendly activities to determine which metro area is the best place to live while renting and raising children.

The Phoenix-area city of Scottsdale ranked at No. 2 on RentCafe’s list — only 8% of children in the metro live under the poverty line, one of the lowest proportions of any big city in the nation. And while housing and overall cost of living can be somewhat high in the West’s Most Western Town, 83% of the apartments in the area are in top locations.

Scottsdale also ranks in the top 3 in the country for local economy, with a 4% unemployment rate and 3% job growth in 2023. The city also earned points for its high-quality schools and natural amenities, including the country’s largest butterfly conservatory.
