What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?
I moved to Dallas pretty quickly after graduating and started as a server at TwoRows Restaurant and Brewery. Over the next 12 years I worked just about every position possible in that same company and in eight different locations from Houston to Tulsa. My biggest accomplishment there was director of catering, where I was able to utilize my customer service skills and creativity in developing our catering menu and marketing to add three catering vans and a full team of servers and bartenders.
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Paris (no, not France) and raised in Pittsburg (no, not Pennsylvania). Both are in northeast Texas, surrounded by 50-foot pine trees and lakes in every direction.
Growing up, what did you want to be?
I always wanted to be a fashion buyer or something in the fashion industry. Fun fact, I was a beauty school drop out! At that time perms were big and I just couldn’t get those down.
What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?
In real estate we seem to take on our clients’ stresses, dreams, wants and needs. To relax, I love playing with my dogs, shopping, paddleboarding, Pilates and my most favorite thing is travel!
If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?
That’s a good one! I’d have to say Jesus or the one and only Dolly!
What is Phoenix’s best-kept secret?
I’m not sure this is much of a secret, but the amount of incredible destinations that are within a six-hour drive that people come from around the world to enjoy, from the Grand Canyon to Rocky Point, Flagstaff to Tombstone, Jerome to Lake Havasu, Vegas to Scottsdale.
What do you love most about the industry?
Service is in my DNA. It’s what I have always known. I have a passion for meeting and exceeding people’s expectations in what is easily one of the most stressful times in their lives. I also love the marketing aspect of it and the negotiations.
How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?
Experience, energy and service!
What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
As I mentioned earlier, as Realtors, we take on a lot of our clients stresses. Divorces and deaths can be pretty challenging to help your clients transition through.
What’s your best advice for generating new leads?
DON’T BE A SECRET AGENT. Every where I go, I want to ensure that those around me know that I am proud of my career and welcome conversations about anything real estate. It could be just a curious question or a need for an introduction to a Realtor in a different part of the U.S. When I travel, I bring cards and anytime I see a REMAX office, I stop! From St. Martin to Maine, I have meet some incredible REMAX agents everywhere and along the way.
What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?
We just finished “Five Star Weekend” in a day! I also love watching all the challenges like “Survivor,” “The Challenge,” “Alone,” and of course all the mystery shows like “Dateline” or “20/20.” I also listen to a book or three a month, mostly Colleen Hoover or personal development books.
What’s your favorite meal in Phoenix?
I LOVE Mexican food! So almost any Mexican restaurant is great! We also spend a lot of time at V’s Taproom in Vistancia.
Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Phoenix?
Heritage Square and the Evans House are two of the coolest buildings in Phoenix from the 1800s. I also love watching performances at Gammage, and the Biltmore is just an incredible building!
What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?
I had a very good friend of mine mention that her uncle was going to sell his home he built that sits on four acres of land in south Phoenix, just at the base of a mountain. She mentioned a price that was low because it was cash and a quick sell. I really felt it was terribly low. I asked her to let me list it, and if in a week I couldn’t get her something better, I would cancel the listing.
We listed the home and marketed like crazy. Within three days we had 82 offers to review. The offer we accepted was cash and about four times the amount of the original offer, a quick close and ability to leave behind anything the seller didn’t want. That was a pretty cool closing!
What’s one thing people are surprised to learn about you?
I think most are surprised when I say that I was raised on a chicken farm. And when I say that, they don’t quite realize the extent of it. We were egg producers and we would get a chicken delivery of approximately 800,000 to 1 million chickens!
What is your favorite vacation spot and why?
My favorite place in the world is Rocky Point in Sonora, Mexico! If you are local to Phoenix you know exactly where I’m talking about and why. Check out Puerto Penasco!
What is your favorite city after Phoenix?
Of course I’ll say my home, Peoria! There is nothing like truly loving where you live and feeling that connection to home, friends, favorite businesses and feeling the deep roots of the place you have watched your kids grow.
In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?
Find a mentor or team, shadow and soak it in!
What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app?
I love Facebook! I have had a pretty high percentage of clients first meet me through social media like Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?
I really like Jared James because he passes down a lot of great info and is not biased for the most part. I love following anything about fashion on a budget and those with contagious energy!
