Why authenticity is the currency of the future

by Tim Brigham

Technology is the assistant. Authenticity is the advantage.

In today’s market, it is very easy to get caught up in automation. AI is everywhere. CRMs are smarter. Bots can write emails, create captions, draft scripts, build workflows and respond to leads before most of us have even poured a cup of coffee. Hear me out loud and clear: It cannot replace your experience, your judgment, your relationships, your voice or your ability to guide a client through one of the biggest financial decisions of their life. Whether you are a loan officer or a real estate agent, your skill set still matters. Actually, I would argue it matters more than ever. If everyone has access to the same robots, the robot is no longer the differentiator. You are.

The rule: Do something awesome once

One of my favorite technology rules is simple: I want to do something awesome once but then never have to do the whole thing again. Simple enough, right? Authentic, but without me having to craft it from scratch over and over. Think about how many times loan officers and agents type the same messages every week. Loan officers repeatedly explain preapprovals, document requests, loan milestones, clear-to-close updates, rate conversations and cash-to-close explanations. Agents repeatedly explain showing instructions, listing appointment follow-ups, offer submissions, inspection timelines, appraisal updates and closing expectations. The next market will not be won by the person with the most automation. It will be won by the professional who can combine efficiency with authenticity. I truly believe that authenticity is the real currency of the future. Clients still want speed and a smooth process, but they also want to feel genuinely heard. They want to feel like someone is paying specific attention to them so trust is built. A robot can’t do it, and in fact, even if it gave the right answers, it creates a mistrust without you behind the wheel.

A simple example: iPhone text replacement

Here is one practical speed-to-task example anyone can use today. On an iPhone, you can use text replacement to turn a short keyword into your full message. So, instead of typing from scratch the same preapproval explanation, showing confirmation, inspection reminder or client update, you can type one shortcut and have the full message appear instantly.

To set it up:

Go to Settings, General, Keyboard, and Text Replacement, then tap the “+” in the top right corner.

In the Phrase field, paste the full message to use.

In the Shortcut field, type a short trigger word, then tap Save.

Now when you type that shortcut into a text, email, note or message, your phone expands it into the full phrase.

For loan officers, a shortcut like “preapp” could expand into: “Thank you so much for connecting us! What is a good time for us to jump on a call?”

“ctc” could expand into: “Congratulations! We are clear to close. That means underwriting has issued final approval and we are moving into the closing stage. My team is working on finals now and will circle back shortly with next steps!”

For real estate agents, “showing” could expand into: “Thanks for reaching out. I’d be happy to get that showing scheduled. Please send over your preferred time window, and I’ll confirm availability as quickly as possible.”

“offer” could expand into: “Your offer has been submitted. I’ll keep you updated as soon as we hear anything back. In the meantime, I’ll stay close to the listing side so we understand timing, competition and next steps.”

The coaching point

These shortcuts aren’t replacing the relationship. The shortcut supports the relationship and increases your speed to task. Please, do not just blast generic messages. Do not let automation make you sound like everyone else. Do not remove your voice from your business. Craft your perfect message, and save it to be replicated as your foundation. Then all you have to do is add the client’s name, mention the property, reference the specific situation. Add context, and make it sound like you. Efficiency gets the message started; authenticity makes the message actually land. Think about how much energy you spend creating the perfect text or email. Even worse, you were between appointments and maybe used four words when you should have used 10. Create the perfect responses once, and get your time back. This means every single client gets the best version of you!

Build the systems. Create the templates. Automate repetitive work, but please never forget this: Technology is the assistant; authenticity creates trust, and trust is the currency of relationships.
