These Arizona cities are heating up — literally

by Emily Marek

Phoenix is the hottest city in the country — and quickly getting hotter, according to a report from Redfin.

Nationwide, there were 14 consecutive months of record-breaking temperatures in 2023 and 2024, Redfin said, and last July was the hottest month in human history worldwide.

In Phoenix, the average annual temperature was 75.4 degrees in 2024, while the average summer temperature was 93.7 degrees. The city experienced 113 consecutive days where the temperature exceeded 100 degrees and 70 days with temperatures over 110 degrees.

Temperatures never hit the city’s record high of 122 degrees, however, which was hit on June 26, 1990. Temperatures also hit a recent high of 119 degrees in July 2023.

Two other Arizona cities with ultra-hot summers landed on Redfin’s list: Yuma ranked No. 2, with an average summer temperature of 92.8 degrees; and Tucson ranked No. 7, with an average summer temperature of 86.4 degrees.
