Phoenix ranks among the top cities in the country

by Emily Marek

World’s Best Cities has announced their ranking of the best cities around the country, with Phoenix coming in at No. 23.

The ranking is based on six main criteria: place (including walkability, bikeability, landmarks and outdoor areas), product (airports, convention centers, museums, universities and pro sports teams), programming (culture, nightlife, food, shopping and attractions), people (diversity, education levels and percentage of the population born outside the U.S.), prosperity (number of Fortune 500 companies, knowledge based-businesses, cost of living and poverty rates) and promotion (based on Facebook check-ins, Google searches and trends, Tripadvisor reviews and Instagram hashtags).

Taking all that into account, Phoenix came in at No. 23 — with a relatively high ranking for professional sports teams and knowledge-based businesses. The so-called “desert metro” has one of the fastest-growing populations of any U.S. city over the past decade, with its walkability, art districts and planned developments cementing it a city on the rise.

The city that ranked the highest overall was New York, which unsurprisingly came in as No. 1 for for sights and landmarks and also claims the most Instagram hashtags.
