What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?

The most “interesting” was by far investigating evidence and testimonials for criminal cases bound for trial as a videographer for the Phoenix legal system. So many weird stories!

Where did you grow up?

Born outside of Milwaukee Wisconsin, however I grew up in North Scottsdale before calling Uptown Phoenix home for the last 20 years.

Growing up, what did you want to be?

It was medical school or art school, and I thought for sure animating for Disney or Pixar was where I was going to end up. That changed quickly after graduating college, but I use my design & marketing learned in college on the regular.

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?

When I’m stressed, I garden, do yoga, shop and look at my schedule to see when and where the next travels may take me.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?

Eyvind Earlle who as an artist for Disney, best known for his use of geometric shapes in organic landscapes in Bambi & Sleeping Beauty. I find his art intriguing, and it would be an interesting experience to watch him work and talk about his process.

What is Phoenix’s best-kept secret?

Downtown through Uptown Phoenix has a lot to offer, and I think suburban areas give it a bad rap… there are so many beautiful homes in eclectic neighborhoods. It’s worth making a Sunday drive and seeing what you don’t see on the evening news.

What do you love most about the industry?

Homes are like people, no two are ever the same. Each has a story and a nuance which makes what I do very fulfilling.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?

When I work for a client, I work for the client, not my own self-interests. I strive to make their experience fun and as stress-free as I can, while at times that comes with tough-love… but I’m always looking out for them.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?

Identifying items that were their “deal-breakers” or items that aren’t in their best interest, when they get caught up in a purchase or sale. I want to make sure when all is settled, they are happy with their choice and not caught up in the moment.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?

Talk about what you do and introduce yourself to people.

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?

Stranger Things, Black Bird, Chicago Med, HGTV, Million Dollar Listing, Star Trek Discovery, Mystery Podcasts… it’s a long list.

What’s your favorite meal in Phoenix?

America’s Taco Shop is a hidden gem and to get that is a treat I have a hard time turning down.

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Phoenix?

I’ve always appreciated the Chase Bank on 44th St and Camelback designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. I love the pillars and how they resemble trees made out of concrete.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you on the job?

Representing my buyer, the homeowner was in theater and threw out my home inspector in a very dramatic way. When later I found out she did it to entertain herself telling me “It was one of her best performances ever!” (Neither I, my client or inspector found it as funny as she did)

What’s one thing people are surprised to learn about you?

That I used to be a high school teacher. I chose to volunteer a year of my life to give back to the system that gave me my education. I told myself no matter what I graduate in, after college I will teach for a year… and I did.

What is your favorite vacation spot and why?

Domestically, Hood River, Oregon, is a great getaway. Internationally, I really enjoy visiting London and exploring the UK.

What is your favorite city after Phoenix?

I’d be remiss if I didn’t say Milwaukee, as I have so many family members in Wisconsin. City or not, sometimes it’s the company that makes a place great.

In 10 words or less, what is your advice for someone new to the industry?

Pace yourself; perfect one thing then move to the next.

What’s your favorite real estate iPhone/Android app?

Might be cliché, but flexmls app is where a lot of answers and opportunities lie.

Who are your favorite people to follow on social media?

Fellow agents and industry experts are inspirational.
