Homeownership is associated with numerous additional costs that can burden buyers, one of which is property fees. That includes dreaded costs like property tax, home insurance and homeowner association (HOA) fees.
CashNetUSA analyzed Zillow data to determine the U.S. neighborhoods that have the highest — and lowest — property fees relative to yearly home payments. Nationwide, the neighborhood with the most expensive property fees was Prospect Lefferts Gardens in New York City, where residents pay 68.85% of their yearly home payments on property fees.
However, many of the U.S. neighborhoods with the least expensive fees are in the Phoenix area, with the lowest fees in the country seen in DC Ranch in Scottsdale, where residents pay only 13.16% in fees.
Troon in Scottsdale ranked No. 4, with residents spending 13.38% of yearly home payments on fees. Meanwhile, Desert Uplands in Mesa ranked No. 7 at 13.63%; Arrowhead Lakes in Glendale ranked No. 10 at 13.80%; Whisper Rock in Scottsdale ranked No. 11 at 13.94%; McDowell Mountain Ranch in Scottsdale ranked No. 12 at 13.98%; Troon North in Scottsdale ranked No. 17 at 14.28%; Ahwatukee Foothills in Phoenix ranked No. 19 at 14.43%; and Seville in Gilbert ranked No. 20 at 14.47%.
