All around the country, warm-blooded Americans are getting the winter blues as cold temperatures creep in. It’s no wonder so many snowbirds fly to Apache Junction to escape the cold months!
According to a new report from StorageCafe, the small Phoenix-area city of Apache Junction is one of the top locales in the country for people who migrate to warmer pastures in the winter, ranking at No. 7 in the United States. Not only does the city offer a low cost of living, but about 80% of the vacant housing in the area can be attributed to seasonal use. Furthermore, the city is well-known for its hiking, camping and golfing attractions, as well as an abundance of RV parks.
StorageCafe defined ‘snowbirds’ as people from the colder regions of the U.S. and Canada who migrate to warmer destinations for several months during the winter — however, they also included “zoombirds” in their study, referring to remote workers who travel to warmer destinations for the winter while continuing to work remotely.
Apache Junction was followed by Mesa and Scottsdale at Nos. 30 and 31. The cities share many traits with Apache Junction, including year-round temperate weather and a myriad of outdoor attractions, but are slightly more expensive: While Apache Junction has a median rent of only $813 per month for a one-bedroom unit, it’s a significantly cheaper option than Mesa or Scottsdale where monthly rents are $1,196 and $1,578, respectively.
