Move over, New York and Los Angeles. According to a recent report from moveBuddha, Phoenix will be the fourth-most populated city in the U.S. by 2100, outgrowing New York City, LA and Chicago.
moveBuddha analyzed Census data and growth rates from the past decade to project what the United States will look like in 2100. Based on these predictions, Dallas, Houston and Austin will take over as the most-populated cities, with Phoenix falling just behind them.
Currently ranked the No. 10 most populated city, Phoenix is expected to grow to 22.27 million residents by 2100, assuming the metro’s population growth continues at the same rate it has for the past decade. If these projections are correct, Phoenix’s population will have more than quadrupled by 2100.
moveBuddha also predicts that Atlanta and Washington, D.C., as well as the Florida cities of Orlando and Miami, will join Dallas, Houston, Austin and Phoenix in the top 10 most populous cities. New York will slide to No. 5, while Los Angeles will drop to No. 7.
