Scottsdale, Gilbert among most caring cities in the US

by Emily Marek

Two cities in the Phoenix-area are among the most caring cities in America, according to a report from WalletHub.

Based on criteria like provisions for the vulnerable and number of citizens in caring professions like nursing and counseling, Scottsdale and Gilbert ranked Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, trailing only behind No. 2 Boston and No. 1 Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Scottsdale’s rank was boosted by its ability to care for its vulnerable population, taking first place in WalletHub’s ranking. That includes taking care of children: Scottsdale has the fourth-highest adoption rate in the country and the sixth-lowest child poverty rate.

That means despite its relatively low population of residents in caretaking professions, it’s still one of the most caring cities in the country.

Furthermore, Scottsdale residents are very philanthropic with their hard-earned money, with the 10th-highest rate of online charity donations and the 15th-highest amount of volunteer hours. The city also has one of the lowest rates of violent crime in the country.

Gilbert, meanwhile, has the second-lowest child poverty rate in the country, contributing to its rank as the No. 9 city for caring for vulnerable populations. Gilbert also ranked No. 2 for community care, including metrics like crime rate, civic engagement, neighborly behaviors and charitable donations.
