Retirees want to live somewhere safe, fun and healthy — and Scottsdale offers just that, according to a new study from Wallethub.
Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics and other sources, the finance company ranked over 180 U.S. cities across 45 key metrics like infrastructure, tax costs and attractions.
Scottsdale placed No. 2, outranking popular snowbird destinations such as Miami and Tampa, Florida. Orlando, Florida took first place.
Beautiful weather helped boost Scottsdale’s score. Plus, it boasted the highest percentage nationwide of people over the age of 65.
“It’s important to choose wisely when picking where to retire, as many retirees are on a fixed income,” said WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo. “As a result, the best cities for retired people are those that minimize taxes and expenses, as well as have good opportunities for retirees to continue paid work for extra income, if they choose to do so. In addition, the top cities provide high-quality health care and offer plenty of enjoyable activities for retirees.”
