The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) will move to revoke Phoenix REALTORS’® charter following the local association’s refusal to “categorically withdraw” MLS Choice.
NAR hit Phoenix REALTORS® with a cease and desist regarding the non-Realtor subscription service on Dec. 20. Phoenix REALTORS® replied by saying they would not eliminate the option from their offerings, leading the national association to make the “difficult but necessary decision to initiate the charter revocation process,” according to an internal email sent by NAR General Counsel Lesley Muchow and obtained by Real Estate News.
The email also detailed next steps for the revocation process, which will begin with NAR President Kevin Sears asking Phoenix REALTORS® to “review its reasons for noncompliance” before a panel of NAR Executive Committee members. If Phoenix REALTORS® cannot plead its case, NAR will issue a deadline for shutting down MLS Choice.
If the charter is ultimately revoked, Phoenix REALTORS’® territory will be classified as “unassigned and available.”
