The average American spends roughly $1,700 on their monthly rent, according to a new report from RentCafe. But how far does that budget stretch across the ZIP codes that make up the Phoenix metropolitan area?
RentCafe analyzed apartment sizes in ZIP codes across the country to determine which areas give the typical renter the most bang for their buck. In Phoenix, renters can get the most apartment in Laveen Village (85041), where a $1,700 monthly budget garners 1,090 square feet of space.
Conversely, Phoenicians get the least space in the downtown/Los Olivos zip code of 85004, where $1,700 only gets you 658 square feet — well below the national average of 944 square feet.
As seen in the map of Phoenix’s ZIP codes, renters are more likely to find smaller apartments on a $1,700 budget in the center of the city, with space increasing slightly further away from the downtown area.
